This blog site is an exploration of family origins and continued bonds between the US and Croatia. Riječki karneval 2019 is my starting point. The images and stories here are presented through a lens that I hope convey shared memories and unique insights in meaningful, true ways. For over twenty years I’ve practiced documentary, oral history and story-telling to create narrative public history projects. My favorite projects focus on relationships between place and identity. I advocate for local communities, youth, and our planet by collaborating with, learning from, teaching–and by working as a volunteer Treekeeper for a Midwest conservation organization. Other cultural institutions and organizations I’ve worked with include Columbia University, The University of Illinois at Chicago, The Chicago History Museum, The University of Chicago, The Chicago Community Trust, and libraries, museums and schools in the Chicago area and in New York City.
